IPAM

Add IP addresses manually

Add IP addresses to a subnet by hand or from a CSV file, and download your IP allocations as a CSV file.

In this guide, you add IP addresses to a subnet by hand or from a CSV file, and you download all IP allocations as a CSV file. ITVA shows the IP addresses that you add with the source Manual.

ITVA can also add IP addresses for you, from live data on your network. See Sync DHCP leases and Sync DNS records.

Before you begin

  • You have permission to manage IP allocations and to view subnets.
  • The subnet for the IP addresses is in your inventory. See Manage subnets.

Add an IP address

  1. In the portal, go to Inventory > IP Allocations.
  2. Select New IP Address.
  3. In IP Address, enter the address. For example, 10.20.0.15.
  4. In Subnet, select the subnet that contains the address.
  5. Optional: enter a MAC Address and a Name.
  6. Select Save.

The IP address must be in the subnet that you select. Each IP address can be in a subnet only one time.

To change an IP address later, open it and select Edit.

Import IP addresses from a CSV file

  1. Go to Inventory > IP Allocations.
  2. Open the menu next to New IP Address.
  3. Select Bulk Import.
  4. Make a CSV file with the columns ip_address, name, and subnet. Put one IP address on each row.
  5. Select the CSV file.
  6. Select Save.
ip-addresses.csv
ip_address,name,subnet
10.20.0.15,printer-floor-2,10.20.0.0/24
10.20.0.16,badge-reader-lobby,10.20.0.0/24

The subnet value must be the exact CIDR of a subnet in your inventory. The CSV file has no MAC address column. To add a MAC address, edit the IP address after the import.

Download IP allocations as a CSV file

  1. Go to Inventory > IP Allocations.
  2. Select Download CSV.

ITVA makes the report and then downloads it. The file is named <DATE>_ipam_ip_addresses.csv and has the columns IP_ADDRESS, DESCRIPTION, SUBNET, MAC_ADDRESS, and SOURCE. It includes IP addresses from all sources.

Check that it worked

  1. Go to Inventory > IP Allocations.
  2. In the search box, enter the IP address or name.
  3. Make sure that the IP address shows with the source Manual.
  4. Open the IP address.

The ARP Entries and MAC Entries cards show live data from your network for this IP address. ARP entries show which devices have this IP address in their ARP table, and with which MAC address. MAC entries show the switch and interface where that MAC address is connected. The cards are empty until you sync ARP and MAC entries. See Sync ARP and MAC entries.
