Why we built ITVA
We spent years hands-on in IT operations. We watched the same painful cycle play out over and over. Something breaks. Alerts fire. And then begins the hours-long scramble across siloed teams, each one racing to prove it is not their problem.
The industry even has a term for it. They call it Mean Time to Innocence.
Think about that. The default behavior in a crisis is not to find and fix the problem. It is to prove you are not responsible. That is the world we decided to change.
Observability tools give you data, not information.
Every tool on the market was built to do one thing. Tell you when something specific is not working. A network switch goes down. A server stops responding. CPU spikes. A link drops. You get an alert.
But that is data, not information. Which servers depend on that link that just went down? What applications run on those servers? What business services are now degraded? Nobody can tell you. You have a wall of green and red lights and no idea what any of it actually means for the business.
So we asked ourselves a simple question. If you are already polling all these devices and collecting all this data, why not capture how things actually work? Not just raw metrics, but the relationships, the dependencies, the topology. That is what turns data into information.
Everything traverses the network. Everything.
Every application request, every database query, every API call, every backup job, every user workflow. All of it crosses the network to get where it is going. That means the network is the one place where you can actually see all of it happening.
And yet nobody was building observability around that fact. Everyone was instrumenting individual servers, individual applications, individual services. Stitching together five tools to try to get a full picture. But the network already had that picture. It always did. Because every single one of those workflows was already passing through it.
That is the foundation we built ITVA on. If you anchor your observability to the network, you do not need to piece things together. You can see every application, every server, every service, and every path between them. That is how you actually get a single pane of glass.
We built a data lake that speaks every vendor's language.
The hardest part of what we do is not collecting data. It is making sense of it. We took raw, unstructured output from dozens of vendors and mapped it all into a single, unified data format. Whether you have Cisco or Juniper switches, Windows or Linux servers, Palo Alto or Fortinet firewalls, it all gets normalized into our proprietary data lake.
Your BGP peering information is in the same format. Your interface IPs, your ARP entries, your route tables. Apples to apples, always. One coherent system, regardless of who manufactured the hardware.
Information, not just data. That changes everything.
What do you get from having real information instead of raw metrics? You get a digital twin. Not a static diagram someone drew six months ago, but a live, continuously updated model of how your infrastructure actually operates right now, and how it operated yesterday.
For monitoring and alerting, this means you know what is actually impacted when something breaks. You have time-series data showing how things worked before, enabling much more intelligent alerts. It is the difference between "a link is down" and "a link is down, and here are the 12 services that depend on it, and here is exactly what changed since the last time it was healthy."
