A floor plan diagram is an image of a floor or room at a location, with pins that show where devices and racks are. By the end of this guide, you have a floor plan with your equipment pinned to it.

## Before you begin

- You need a location for the floor plan. See [Add a location](https://www.itva.com/docs/asset-management/add-a-location).
- Your role must have the manage permission for **Locations**. Floor plans use the Locations permissions.
- You need an image file of the floor plan, for example a PNG or JPEG export of the drawing.
- To pin racks, add the racks to the location first. See [Build a rack elevation](https://www.itva.com/docs/asset-management/build-a-rack-elevation).

## Upload a floor plan

1. Open **Inventory**, select **Locations**, and open the location.
2. In the **Floor Plan Diagrams for <LOCATION>** card, select **New Diagram**.
3. In **Name**, enter a name, for example the floor or room.
4. Optional: In **Description**, enter a description.
5. In **Image**, select the floor plan image.
6. Select **Save**.

ITVA saves a diagram without an image, but the diagram page is then empty and you cannot add pins. To add an image later, open the diagram and select **Edit Diagram**.

## Pin devices and racks

1. In the **Floor Plan Diagrams for <LOCATION>** card, select the diagram name.
2. To pin a device, select **+ Device**, then select the device.
3. To pin a rack, select **+ Rack**, then select the rack. The list shows only racks at this location.

Each new pin starts in the center of the image. If the device or rack is already on the diagram, ITVA keeps the existing pin and does not add a second one.

## Move pins

The diagram has two modes. In **View** mode, the pins are fixed. In **Manage** mode, you can drag them.

1. Select **Manage**.
2. Drag each pin to its place on the image. ITVA saves the position when you release the pin.
3. Select **View**.

ITVA stores each position relative to the size of the image, so the pins stay in the same place on any screen size.

## Edit or delete a floor plan

To change the name, description, or image, open the diagram and select **Edit Diagram**.

**Caution:** Deleting a diagram is permanent and removes all its pins. The devices and racks stay in ITVA.

To delete a diagram, open it, select **Delete**, and confirm.

## Check that it worked

- The **Floor Plan Diagrams for <LOCATION>** card shows a preview of the image next to the diagram name.
- In **View** mode, move the pointer over a pin. A device pin shows the device details. A rack pin shows the rack name and description.

## Troubleshooting

### The Manage, + Device, and + Rack buttons are missing

If the diagram page shows no buttons, your role can view locations but not manage them. Ask an administrator to give your role the manage permission for Locations.

### The rack is not in the list

The **+ Rack** list shows only racks at the same location as the diagram. Make sure the rack is at this location.
