A provider is the company that supplies a circuit, for example an ISP or a carrier. Each circuit must have a provider, so add your providers before you add circuits. By the end of this guide, you have a provider that you can select on a circuit.

## Before you begin

- Your role must have the manage permission for **Providers**, in the **Infrastructure** group. See [Roles and permissions](https://www.itva.com/docs/access-management/roles-and-permissions).

## Add a provider

1. Open **Inventory**. Under **Infrastructure**, select **Providers**.
2. Select **New Provider**.
3. In **Name**, enter the provider name. Each provider must have a different name.
4. Optional: In **Phone**, enter the support phone number.
5. Optional: In **Email**, enter the support email address.
6. Select **Save**.

You can also add a provider while you add a circuit. In the circuit form, select the link below **Provider:** to create a new provider.

## Edit or delete a provider

To change the name, phone, or email, open the provider and select **Edit**.

When you delete a provider, ITVA archives it. The provider no longer shows in the **Providers** list or in the circuit form. Circuits that already use the provider keep it. You can then add a new provider with the same name.

To delete a provider, open it, select **Delete**, and confirm.

## Check that it worked

- The provider shows in the **Providers** list with its phone and email.
- The provider shows in the **Provider:** list when you add a circuit. The circuit page then shows **Provider Phone** and **Provider Email** from the provider.

## Troubleshooting

### ITVA does not save the provider

If the save fails with an error that names `provider_unique_organization_name`, a provider with this name exists already. Use the existing provider, or enter a different name.
